Senator Will Barfoot grew up in Pike Road, Alabama, and graduated from Auburn University at Montgomery where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in international studies in 1995. Will then went to law school at Jones School of Law in Montgomery and received his Juris Doctorate in 2001. In 2004, Will and his law partner Ben Schoettker (pronounced Shot-a-ker) started the law firm of Barfoot & Schoettker, LLC, where they represent individuals and businesses in a wide variety of practice areas.
In the summer of 1988, Will was selected to represent the state of Alabama on a student exchange trip to the former Soviet Union. In 2005, Will served as a temporary Judge of Probate for Montgomery County. In 2006, Will was a candidate for the Republican nomination for Senate in Alabama’s 25th District and began serving on the Montgomery County Republican Executive Committee. In 2008, Will was elected by the voters to serve as a delegate for Former Gov. Mike Huckabee at the National Republican Party Convention and served as legal counsel for Gov. Mike Huckabee during the 2008 Alabama Republican Presidential Primary. In 2010, Will was elected by the voters to serve on the Alabama Republican Executive Committee. Will served on the Pike Road Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors from 2014 until 2018. Will previously served on the City of Montgomery Board of Adjustments and as vice president of the board for Capitol Heights Place.
In 2018 Will was elected to the Alabama Senate (Crenshaw, Elmore and Montgomery). He serves as vice chair of the Judiciary Committee as well as on various other Committees including: Agriculture & Forestry, Banking & Insurance, Confirmations, Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development, Veterans’ Affairs, Contract Review and the Sunset Committee.
Will and his family are former members of Capitol Heights Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and are now members of Thorington Road Baptist Church where he has served on the Budget and Finance Committee and he and his wife have taught Sunday School. Will is married to Kathy Barfoot and they have five children: Erica (husband Richard Deloney), Reagan, Bankston, Ellie and Jeb. He and his wife are the proud grandparents of two grandchildren, Bowen and Anne Carter. Will enjoys spending time with his family, history, politics, hunting, and listening to bluegrass music.
