Senator Sam Givhan was elected in 2018 to represent Senate District 7, which is located in Madison County. As the 7th generation of his family to have farmed in South Alabama and a 28-year practicing business and real estate attorney in Huntsville involved in some of Alabama’s largest economic development projects, his experience is reflective of the diversity of Alabama’s economy.
Senator Givhan serves as Chairman of the Madison County Local Legislation Committee and Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee. He serves on the Senate Rules, Finance & Taxation General Fund, Confirmations, Judiciary, Fiscal Responsibility, & Economic Development, Healthcare, Veterans, Military Affairs, & Public Safety, Energy Council Committees and is a member of the Joint Transportation Committee.
He obtained a degree in Finance from Auburn University and his JD from The University of Alabama School of Law. Senator Givhan and his wife Heather have been married since 1992 and have six adult children. The Givhans attend Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville.
