MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senate President Pro Tem Greg Reed (R-Jasper) and Senate Majority Leader Clay Scofield (R-Guntersville) today released the following statement supporting Governor Kay Ivey’s proclamation declaring Wednesday, March 2, 2022, as a day of prayer for Ukraine:

“Today we join Governor Kay Ivey and the people of Alabama in an observed day of prayer for the country of Ukraine and her courageous people. The world has watched over the last week as Ukrainian men and women boldly responded to unprovoked attacks, sacrificing their safety by committing themselves to defend their democracy and freedom and risking their lives to keep their country free from aggression. The valiant and selfless acts of the Ukrainian people are an inspiration to all who are watching, unifying countries and their people around the world. We urge Alabamians to join us in prayer, specifically for the innocent civilian lives lost, the families who are separated, the fearless leaders who remained with their people to fight, and the members of the Ukrainian armed forces. We pray for the Lord’s protection over these admirable individuals as they continue to put their lives on the line for the sake of their democracy. And ultimately, we pray for peace – in Ukraine, our divided country, and to sweep across the world. In a time that is marked by division, fear, and uncertainty, we ask the Lord to bring reconciliation and unification among all. We pray to be constantly reminded of the freedoms we are blessed with as American citizens and that we may never take them for granted.”
