CULLMAN, Ala. – Senator Garlan Gudger (R-Cullman) today emphasized Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Department of Transportation’s recent announcement of awards to Alabama cities and counties totaling more than $40 million for several road and bridge projects across the state. The funding is allocated by the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program-II (ATRIP-II), a program established by the Rebuild Alabama Act.
“I’m thoroughly pleased that projects in Winston County were selected to receive funding this year,” said Gudger. “Improvement in the development and quality of Alabama’s roads and bridges is vital to encourage economic growth across our state. Infrastructure is an essential building block of our economy, and it’s critical that a substantial effort is made to improve and maintain it.
“Thank you to the Department of Transportation and Governor Ivey for supplying the necessary resources to make such significant progress in the upkeep of our roads and bridges,” Gudger continued. “I’m proud to sit on the ATRIP-II board, and I will always fight to secure funding for investments in North Alabama that will positively impact the area for years to come.”
Senator Gudger represents Senate District 4, which includes Cullman, Lawrence, Marion, and Winston Counties. This year’s ATRIP-II awards include two project recipients in Winston County, totaling $3,009,904.50.
The projects include:
- $2 million to Winston County for resurfacing US-278 (SR-74) from SR-13 to SR-5, including planning to increase vertical clearance on westbound lanes.
- $1,009,904.50 to the City of Double Springs to add a left turn lane and extend the right turn lane on SR-33 at the CR-24 intersection as well as add an acceleration lane on CR-24.
