Montgomery, AL – January 10, 2023, the Alabama State Senate opened its Organizational Session of the 2023 – 2026 legislative quadrennium. The first item of business was electing the Senate President Pro Tempore.
The nominations were opened by the longest serving member of the Senate, Senator Jabo Waggoner and followed with comments, praises, and applauses from Senate members of both parties. With the motion made by Senator Waggoner and seconded by Senator Bobby Singleton, the nominations were closed, and a roll call vote recorded. All 35 members of the Senate were present, and the vote was 35-0.
Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Reed ascended to the microphone and gave remarks of thanks and gratitude to his colleagues, Senate staff, his district, his family, and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
“As we reflect on the success of these past these past few sessions, I am prepared to build on that momentum and forge new paths in the 2023 session that will continue to have a positive impact across the state of Alabama,” states Senate Pro Tempore Greg Reed. “I am honored to serve our state and my fellow senators as Senate President Pro Tempore as we work together to make Alabama the best place to live, work, and raise a family. This re-election as Senate President Pro Tempore is a great honor. The greatest honor is the confidence that my Senate colleagues have in me.”
The 2023 Organizational Session will resume tomorrow at 1:00pm.
