MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State Senate last month passed a joint resolution to commend Alabama veterans and military families for their dedicated service and sacrifice. Sponsored by Senator Jabo Waggoner (R-Vestavia Hills), the resolution exhibits endless gratitude to all men and women in uniform who fight to preserve our freedom.

Senator Waggoner, the dean of the Senate, presented the resolution to Major General Sheryl Gordon on Military Appreciation Day. Maj. Gen. Gordan serves as adjutant general of the Alabama National Guard and is the first female adjutant general in Alabama National Guard history.

“Our servicemembers selflessly answer the call of duty to defend our independence and protect this great nation,” said Waggoner. “Their unwavering commitment to safeguarding important American values is what keeps us strong, and we are indebted to them for their service.

“I was honored to present Maj. Gen. Gordon with a token of appreciation from the legislature,” Waggoner continued. “Thank you to all active duty members and veterans, and your families, for your service, sacrifice, and contribution to ensure both Alabama and the United States remain safe and prosperous.”

The state legislature’s Military Appreciation Day is held annually at the Alabama State House. This year’s celebration took place on Tuesday, March 9.
